This was my last day in Beijing, and we were the first group to leave.
In the morning we had our final exam. “You now have 17 minutes to complete the reading/writing section” though it only took me about 30 seconds.
Then we had the closing speech. it was nice to have everybody from BNU who made the trip possible in one place - all of the teachers, lecturers and behind-the-scenes people. Fran gave a speech, and she captured it marvellously.
“When we all get home to our families and our friends we know they’ll all be asking the dreaded question “so tell me all about it”. Now where on earth are you even meant to start answering this question?! So far the best response I have thought of is that there simply aren’t words – however I don’t think anyone will be satisfied with that.”
Next up were the performances. We performed 但愿人长久 very seriously. I burst out laughing at everyone else’s!
Following this, our class all headed out for 北京烤鸭,Peking duck. It was really nice to speak with the teachers out of class, even though they didn’t know what some of the food was called in English!
Then it came to leaving. By this point, part of me was ready to go home, but at the same time, I didn’t want to! Being the first group to leave, there were a lot of people still out that we didn’t get to say bye to. We saw a lot of people though, so that’s okay!
After hugging our way down the line of people waving us off, we hopped in the taxi. Even though we’d left, it was clear that Beijing had us now.
