Day 8 in China

We entered proper tourist mode today. The plan was for 20 of us to taxi to the Forbidden City, walk through Tianenmen Square, walk through BeiHai part, and then go for tea in a proper chinese tea house. This morning, 3 of us got a taxi to the Forbidden City, 1 broke off so 2 of us went to Tianenmen Square together, then went to the Silk Road Shopping Centre.

The Forbidden City is undewhelming, if I’m perfectly honest. I mean, it was nice, but there were too many people there, not enough to go into and do. The gardens at the end were the best bit!

(Selfie of a selfie... of a selfie)

Next we taxi’d down to Tiananmen Square, and again, it was a big square, but it was just a square. I’m glad to say I’ve been there!

Shopping was good. It reminded me of being in Tunisia - people are shouting at you from shops to come and try their good, and their prices are sky-high for what they’re really willing to take! I bought a wallet and a camera (so I can actually take photos when I’m milling about!) and we haggled Holly a purse, too.

The next challenge was getting home - we timed everything wrong and had to find our way home at rush hour! None of the taxis would take us, so we headed downstairs and entered the subway - brave move! The subway map gave us no hint as to where we were going. Our best plan was to head to Lama Temple, take some photos, and taxi back from there.

(Yes, I did buy a camera with a screen on the front)

We managed to but our £0.20 tickets and get on to the red line, heading towards the blue ring. Walking up the stairs towards our next train, we bumped into our Student Advisor! What are the chance of that, in a city of 20,000,000 people?!?! Fortunately, we worked out where we were going, and managed to get home pretty quickly!

We went to Lakers that evening, and selfie-cam made it's debut. I love that place, though we always end up staying there way too long, they again only asked us to leave 45 minutes after they officially closed!
